When does refinancing pay for itself?
Divide your switching costs by your monthly saving, that's your break-even in months. If you'll hold the loan longer than that, refinancing is ahead from then on. Most of the refinances we arrange break even within the first year.
What costs are involved in switching?
Typically a discharge fee from your old lender, application and valuation fees (often waived in refinance offers), and government registration, commonly $500–$1,500 all-up. On a fixed rate there may be break costs too; always get that figure first, and we'll check it against the benefit.
